Jing!

I've just put together a little video on how UW Libraries staff might use Jing, the screencasting software that you can use to quickly capture an image or record a video of what's happening on your computer screen and instantly share it with students, faculty or staff via email, Instant Messaging or websites. This can be a great tool for quickly showing a student how you do a search for information online.

Here's the video: http://uweoconnect.extn.washington.edu/jingforuwlibraries

Looking forward to hearing feedback or ideas on how you're interested in using Jing!

This video is great Lauren!

I actually just used Jing for the first time yesterday (because I could not get pointecast to work on my mac)

Jing was pretty easy to use, great way to share searches and presentations.

I've created a few Jing videos to demonstrate searching in the catalog on my ASL subject guide (better to show than tell!): http://library.uwb.edu/guides/subjects/asl/index.html

I also did a presentation on how UWB Librarians might use Jing (with our DFW student Matthew Goddard) just last Wednesday.

One cool idea that a UWB librarian thought of during our session was to record something you are showing a student during an in-person Reference interview and send them the link afterward. That way if they forget what you taught them, they can go back and look at it later.

Thanks for the feedback! And thanks for sharing your Jing demonstrations on the UWB site, Chelle. That's great that you did a presentation for UWB Librarians on Jing recently. Would you mind sharing any materials you had from that presentation (Leslie gave me a hard copy of your handout, but it would be great to have an electronic copy too)!
